Award Winning

We are a Better Business Bureau member with an A+ rating and have now won the President's Award 20 times! J.E. Healy Ford Authorized Sales and Service was granted a Ford franchise from the Ford Motor Company and became a dealership. In 1922, John and Ralph Zook partnered with J.E. and W.S. Calderwood to purchase J.E. Healy's business in Kane. Eighty-six years later, Zook Motors still stands strong. John & Ruth Zook moved to the area in the early 1920's. Soon after that, John and his partners purchased their dealership at 22 Field Street in Kane. In 1925, John Zook became the sole owner of the business, renaming it Midway Garage due to Kane's location midway between Buffalo and Pittsburgh. In 1949, John Zook's son, John, who still owns the dealership today, started working for the garage in the body shop. On January 1, 1950 the dealership incorporated and officially changed its name to Zook Motors, Inc. Along with its changing name, the dealership began to expand. On Aug. 9, 1958, Zook Motors bought an old TV repair shop building located at 24 Field Street, known as the Zega Building, and turned it into a showroom. Sadly, dealership founder, John Zook, died shortly thereafter in Jan. 1969. While Zook's son, John worked in the body shop and later the service department at the dealership after his father's death, Bruce Zook, another son of the late, John Zook, took over as general manager.

Expansion

Together with his wife Carol and his sales manager Greg Rich , Bruce would run the dealership for over three decades; cementing Zook Motors as a pillar of commerce in Kane as well as Northwestern Pennsylvania. In 1984, both Bruce Zook and Greg Rich passed away. Greg on January 25th and Bruce on February 21st. As John Zook continued running the dealership, a new generation of Zooks became involved in the family business in 1985. John's daughter, Susan Zook Wilson, started working for the dealership, and in 1991, she took over as the dealership's General Manager. Under the guidance of Zook and Wilson, the dealership continued to expand. In 1985, property was bought across the street, formerly known as Mr. P's Tavern. In 1996, another Zook joined the crew when John's son, Ken, graduated from Ford Asset Training at Allegheny Community College. Today he's a Senior Master Technician, the highest level a technician can achieve. In January 2000, the dealership expanded again by buying Halcolm Bard's property at 19 Field Street. After this purchase, the Zooks realized there was nowhere else to grow on Field Street. On April 16, 2002, with the help of several agencies and surrounding municipalities, Zook Motors broke ground at a site located just outside of Kane in Wetmore Township. On Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, the dealership celebrated its grand opening at its new location and current site at 25 Willow Run Drive, on Route 6 West of Kane. Today, Zook Motors stands as Pennsylvania's 11th oldest Ford dealership, which means it exists within 15 miles of its original location and has been owned by the same family since it opened. With almost 100 years of experience in town, Zook Motors is ready to serve its loyal customers for years to come.

Zook Motors is ready to serve its loyal customers for years to come.

From humble beginnings as the tow truck for Zook Motors back in 1951 to becoming a national champion almost 70 years later, this 1951 Ford F3 has a profound history with Zook Motors and the Rich family.

Originally purchased new to be used as the tow truck for the small town of Kane, this truck was priced at $3,423.55 and built at the Ford plant in Buffalo, NY and upfitted by the Maday Equipment Company, also located in Buffalo. This truck served the community for many years and found its way into the heart of Greg Rich Jr. whose father, Greg Rich Sr., played a large role in the dealership’s history as the Sales Manager for 30 years until he passed in 1984. For many years, Greg Rich Sr., and late owners and brothers Bruce and John Zook were close friends that ran the dealership together.

Greg’s father started working for Zook Motors in 1954 when Greg was 5 years old. Throughout his years, he greatly admired the truck and at age 16, he himself, was also able to drive the truck when he became a mechanic’s helper. He worked for Zook Motors for 3 years until he left to serve in the US Army in 1968. After serving in the military, he came back to the dealership in 1971 but by this time, the one-time beautiful 1951 Ford F3 had been retired to being stored in the old body shop.

Greg moved on with his career and left Zook Motors in 1973 but over the course of the years still thought of the old truck that he loved in his youth. After all of those years still thinking about the truck, he decided to visit John Zook in 2008 which led to years of conversations with his old friend about acquiring the F3. Finally, in 2012 John decided to part with the truck that was a piece of history with not only himself and the dealership but also with Greg and his family. Over the course of around 40 years, the truck sat stored in the old abandoned body shop with many other vehicles and treasures that Bruce and John kept from days gone by. Greg questioned himself as to whether this truck was beyond repair from the years of neglect but his good friend, Bill Bertres, an antique car restorer, encouraged the restoration and insisted he would help Greg bring the truck back to its former glory.

The next 8 years were filled with many hours of hard work, not only physically in restoring the truck but also in obtaining all of the difficult parts for a restoration project of this caliber. Through the support of his wife, Mary, and his great friend Bill, Greg achieved what he worked so hard towards for all that time, bringing back a piece of his youth to its original beauty and reminding him again of his years spent in Kane with his father at Zook Motors.

After completion of his project, Greg went on to enter it into the AACA meet in the fall of 2020 and at his very first meet won the first Junior Award. The truck was also then selected to be entered and considered for a National Award. In December of 2020, AACA contacted Greg to let him know that the labor of love paid off and he was being given the AACA Zenith Award.

Once again, the 1951 Ford F3 was brought back to visit the dealership in the fall of 2021 where it had spent all those years and served this community with owners Greg and Mary Rich. Just as wonderful as ever, Zook Motors owners, Susan Zook Wilson and Ken Zook, were able to admire and reflect on the hard work, the love and time Greg spent restoring this truck and making it what it was always meant to be. The project had come full circle and the Zook and Rich family were once again able to appreciate the piece of history and national champion.
